Chapter 1. The Word
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
The same was in the beginning with God.
All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

There is a bit of a "land rush" right now in the world of education. Many have realized, as envisioned by the futurist Peter Diamandis, that the future of education in the soon coming Age of Abundance involves handing a tablet to a toddler, and that toddler using it to personally discover the world with one on one attention from an AI tutor.
We see that as the future of education as well, but only a partial vision. Leading, and very expensive, private schools like Acton Academy and Alpha School have settled on a fuller vision, which involves not only using an AI tutor for about two hours a day for academics, but also having field trips and group projects for the rest of each school day.
Well rounded children learn better in the presence of other well rounded children with adult supervision. That is why our focus is not only on developing the best curriculum possible, but in finding the best people to help your child grow. We are in the process of establishing play groups all across the world and hope to have at least one in your neighborhood soon. Perhaps you are the one to lead yours?
We started in Utah County, Utah where Jenna Heckel is our very first "Principal." That word comes from both the world of education and the world of finance. Each Principal is an independent business person who has two main roles: starting and supervising a play group in their own neighborhood, and finding sponsors that will accept the Veramony credits that learners earn at Verafy Academy.
While we offer Verafy Academy free to all, we and our Principals do have expenses, and we plan to meet those expenses with in-kind and financial support from local merchants who operate in the same neighborhoods where our learners live.
So, just as learners have two main activities — learning on their devices and in neighborhood play groups, also known as learning pods — Principals have two main activities: supervising play groups and finding funding through mutually beneficial arrangements with local merchants. Our agreements with local merchants never involve sharing any data about you or your children. The only time a local merchant finds out anything about who you are is when you choose to redeem a voucher that you or your child has earned by learning with Verafy Academy.
The forthcoming Age of Abundance will be fueled by the displacement of many of us from our traditional jobs. AI and robots will produce far more goods and services than the world has ever seen before. We need to work out, collectively, how to distribute all that abundance.
That is a core reason we started Verafy Academy. One of our founders, Trey Tomeny, has a unique background in both education and finance, having started numerous companies, and having taught and been an administrator in both public and private schools. Ellice Tomeny also has a dual background, both as a public school art teacher and as the founder of an educational paper rocket company, It's a Blast, which is now run by her adult grandchildren.
Offering Verafy Academy for free, to all, reflects how life will become abundant for all soon. Many will lose traditional jobs, and working from home will be the new normal. And there is no better work to do than raising our children, and that is why we are introducing the reality and term that is Family Centered Education.

Every minute of verified learning earns Veramony ($VM) — reward value your learner can spend in the Verafy Market on products and services from local merchants — and on classes from local hands-on teachers that require showing up in person, like athletics, arts, drama, and music. Finish and master a whole book or unit, and that learning's Veramony doubles.
Verified learning earns about $1 in Veramony an hour — and double that, about $2 an hour, when you finish a whole book.
Some items are 100% Veramony; others are discounts you split between Veramony and cash. Sections run from 100% $VM all the way down to 10% $VM.
The Market is curated by zip code, so you only ever see products and services available in your own area.
A nearby restaurant offers a free kids' meal for $6 VM (kids under 12). A child reads a three-hour book and earns $3 VM — then $3 VM more for finishing it and passing the final quiz. In the Market they pick the kids' meal, we deduct $6 VM from that child's balance, and email a voucher to redeem in person.

Trey and Ellice Tomeny are professional educators who live in Orem, Utah, with a combined nine children and seven grandchildren between them.
Trey was a founder of Legacy Christian Academy in Frisco, Texas, and of Coram Deo Academy in Flower Mound, Texas. He and his first wife homeschooled their two young boys until the day they started going to school with them — every day.
Ellice has been a public school art teacher since 2015, after her first husband passed.
Trey and Ellice share one of life’s heaviest burdens: each has buried a child. TJ, Trey’s oldest son, went to be with Jesus in 2005 at the age of 14. Joshua, Ellice’s middle son, entered eternity in 2016 at the age of 25, after a lifetime with spina bifida. Verafy Academy is built in their memory — for every hour a parent gets to spend reading with a child.
Trey and Ellice were married in 2021, and Verafy Academy is their joint creation. They are excited to share it with the world and to continue to work on it until every person in the world can get a great and free education.
